Raising the Standard of Home Healthcare Through Training
Paraprofessional Training Institute's (PTI) mission is to raise the standard of home healthcare in Pennsylvania through innovative, accessible training programs for family caregivers, community members and direct care workers.
Charting the Course Towards Sustainable Home Healthcare
The demand for home healthcare is growing across the country, as is the complexity of the long-term care system. Community members need help navigating the system, direct care workers are needed to meet rising demand and informal caregivers need training.
Making Home Healthcare Easily Accessible to Everyone
Most of us will encounter long-term care needs at some point, whether for a parent, family member, or ourselves. More and more, insurers and Medicare are directing patients toward home healthcare over facility-based care because it costs less and often results in better health outcomes.
We Are Making HomeCare Accessible
Through a combination of community education and training, PTI is actively working to ensure that everyone who needs quality home healthcare in Philadelphia can access it easily

Major Barriers Exist in Making Home Care Accessible to Everyone
Lack of Knowledge
Many families don’t know what Home Healthcare services are available, how to access them, or even how to pay for the services. Questions like “Is home care better than a facility?” or “Which provider is best?” often come up during a crisis, when quick decisions are hardest to make.
Caregiver Shortages
A shortage of caregivers leaves family and community members providing informal home care. According to AARP, Pennsylvania has nearly 1.6 million informal caregivers, most learning as they go. Without training, essential tasks like lifting and moving patients can put the patient and caregiver at risk.

Through our Community Support Program, we offer free education and resources to help families and community organizations navigate the home healthcare system.
